Weight Gain in Pregnancy
- Most pregnant women gain between 10kg and 12.5kg, most of the weight is after week 20.
- Gaining too much or too little weight can lead to health problems for you or baby:
- Increase in blood pressure (PIH)
- Gestational diabetes
- Gaining less weight can also cause problems too:
- premature birth
- low birth weight baby less than 2.5kg
- Lack of weight gain can be related to your diet and weight before you become pregnant.
- Naturally slim women may stay slim while pregnant and have healthy babies.
- Pregnancy isn’t the time to go on a diet.
- It’s important that you eat healthily.
