  • Most pregnant women gain between 10kg and 12.5kg, most of the weight is after week 20.
  • Gaining too much or too little weight can lead to health problems for you or baby:
  • Increase in blood pressure (PIH)
  • Gestational diabetes
  • Gaining less weight can also cause problems too:
  • premature birth
  • low birth weight baby less than 2.5kg
  • Lack of weight gain can be related to your diet and weight before you become pregnant.
  • Naturally slim women may stay slim while pregnant and have healthy babies.
  • Pregnancy isn’t the time to go on a diet.
  • It’s important that you eat healthily.
